Basic Login Steps for Students
The following instructions are to be used for students, loan repayment recipients, parents, employers or employees. If an institutional user is having difficulty, they should contact the NDUS FAO at ndfinaid@ndus.edu.
1. Navigate to ND SAMS: https://nd-sams.ndus.edu/auth/login/t1gpf25w1
2. Click Register
3. Enter all required fields
4. Create password - Password should be at least 8 characters & must contain at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 number, & 1 of these special characters.
5. Select account type – defined below (applicant, employer, & parent or guardian)
- Applicant - Students who are viewing their awards or applying for scholarships.
- Employer - ND Career Builders Loan Repayment or Scholarship ONLY. This account type is used for verification of employment.
- Parent or Guardian - ND Career Builders Scholarship ONLY to certify applications for applicants under age 18.
1. Check the box to agree to the terms & click the Register button below
2. You’ll then return to the Login page– enter the email you registered with & click Next
3. Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) - MFA is required for all users except employers. Under the login page you will see three links, forgot password, Resend MFA code, and register. If they need to set up MFA code have them select RESEND MFA CODE> : They will need to have Google authenticator installed on Mobile device first:

- Download Google Authenticator on mobile device from your App Store. There is a “for fee” option, which is NOT required. The free authenticator should be downloaded.
- Open the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device.
- Click/tap the plus sign (+) in the lower right corner.
- Select one of the following:
- Enter a setup key – This is the Authentication Code that appears on the ND SAMS log in page.
- Scan a QR code. Within the app, you select “scan QR code” and it will open a box that you will place over the QR link on the ND SAMS log in page.
- Click Next and then enter the password that you used when registering.
- Using the Google Authenticator App on your mobile device, enter the MFA code for the email you used to register for ND SAMS (six-digit code with no spaces).
- Click Login.
4. From the Welcome Page, click VERIFY MY ACCESS. This is only required the first time you log into ND SAMS to sync the user’s information.
5. Enter your name & date of birth
6. If you are a ND Scholars recipient, then answer yes to have a Registration Code. Otherwise answer no.
- The registration code yes/no question is ONLY for ND Scholars recipients & you would have been emailed the Registration Code.
7. Enter your Social Security Number WITH NO DASHES. The SSN is used to match the student to their scholarships and ensure a correct transfer of funds to the institution.
8. Click Next.
9. Click Verify my Info
10. Click Proceed to Homepage
11. This brings you into the ND SAMS system and completes your login.
Common Issues
“My MFA Code isn’t working.”
When a student receives the error “MFA code entered is not valid” here are some common troubleshooting steps:
1. Resend MFA Code
- Click Resend MFA Code from the password/MFA screen
- Enter the email address they are registered with and click Get MFA Code
- Click “Yes, send it!” to have an email sent to the email address they registered.
- Once they receive the email, which may take several minutes, they can use the QR code or enter the Authenticator Code in their Google Authenticator app. More information on using MFA can be found under How do I get an MFA code?
2. Verify the student is using the correct MFA Code in the Google Authenticator App. Within the Google Authenticator App they may have more than one account set up. The student will need to use the MFA code for the email address they used to register.
3. Any other issues? Student should contact the NDUS Financial Aid Office at ndfinaid@ndus.edu or at 701-877-5718.
“I forgot my password.”
1. From the login page click “Forgot Password?”
2. Enter the email address used to register and click Reset Password.
3. Click “Yes, send it!” to have a recovery email sent. Note: The email may take several minutes to receive. They SHOULD NOT request multiple recovery emails to be sent.
4. From the email click the “Resent password” link.
5. Enter the email address used to register and then the Recovery Code from the email.
6. Create a new password. Passwords should be at least 8 characters & must contain at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 number, & 1 of these special characters.
7. Click Reset Password. A green success message will appear in the right corner.
8. Click Login link and return to the login page to login with the new password.
9. If they are still experiencing issues after resetting their password, contact the NDUS Financial Aid Office at ndfinaid@ndus.edu or at 701-877-5718.
“I logged in but I don’t know how to take any next steps.”
If this is the very first-time logging into ND SAMS they must verify their access before completing any applications or verifications. If they logged in previously and are still uncertain about how to proceed, they should contact the NDUS Financial Aid Office at ndfinaid@ndus.edu or at 701-877-5718.

“I’m getting a “User does not exist!” error.”
Verify that they are using the same email address used to register for ND SAMS. If they are not sure they’ve registered, they can attempt to register again using the Basic Login Steps for Students. If they are still having issues they can contact the NDUS Financial Aid Office at ndfinaid@ndus.edu or at 701-877-5718.
“I’m receiving an Error when trying to login.”
If this occurs, it usually indicates the username and/or password is incorrect. Some steps to take include:
1. Verify that rgwt are using the same email address used to register for ND SAMS.
2. Attempt to reset your password.
3. If they are not sure if they’ve registered, they can attempt to register again using the
Basic Login Steps for Students.
